The Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA), in collaboration with the Road Maintenance Fund Administration (RMFA) and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), officially handed over the project site for the rehabilitation and re-gravelling of the 52.35 km road between Mile 91 and Robul Junction in Magburuka, Tonkolili District, on January 16th, 2026.

The Paramount Chief Bai Shebora Thalleh III of Yoni Mamila Chiefdom, who expressed the community’s long-awaited relief and excitement for the much-needed road infrastructure development.

Speaking at the event, SLRA Director General, Eng. Alfred Jalil Momodu, highlighted the importance of this collaborative effort, stating, “For the past 31 years, road work has been a top priority for us. This is not the first time we’ve worked on roads across the country, but this is the first major collaboration with the RSLAF in road construction.”

Brigadier General Hassan Sulaiman Jalloh, the Commander of the RSLAF’s Combat Support Brigade, expressed the military’s readiness to take on this project, emphasizing their commitment to professionalism and integrity in ensuring the success of the road rehabilitation.

Dr. Denis M. Sandy, the Minister of Works and Public Assets, the government’s focus on opening up the country with good roads, stating, “His Excellency the President said this is a year of action, and I believe in action. The President is happy for this road construction, and our focus is to open up this country as much as possible for everyone to enjoy smooth road networks.”

Mariatu Kamara, a local business owner from Robis Ferry, welcomed the initiative, highlighting the challenges the community has faced due to the poor condition of the road, which has hindered economic activities and resulted in accidents.
