Orange SL, the leading mobile network operator in Sierra Leone, hosted its annual media engagement event on February 6th, 2026, at the Orange Digital Center in Freetown. The event, themed “Connecting with the Media – Sharing Our Story”, provided a platform for the company to highlight its key achievements, major milestones, and strategic impact from the previous year.
The event was attended by various stakeholders, including Khadijah Bangura, co-founder of Liberty TV; Alhaji Manika Kamara, president of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ); Khalil Kallon, executive secretary of the Independent Media Commission; and Chernor Bah, the Minister of Information and Civic Education.
Khadijah Bangura expressed her gratitude for being part of the engagement, stating, “It is very difficult for a corporate company to open its doors to the media, but Orange SL has intentionally created a space for dialogue, reflection, and partnership. No single institution can work in isolation, and when partnerships are intentional, information becomes credible, stories become impactful, and trust becomes stronger.”
SLAJ President Alhaji Manika Kamara thanked Orange SL for recognising the media as a strategic partner, emphasising the timeliness and significance of the event in a society shaped by information and trust. He noted that the relationship between SLAJ and Orange SL has been consistent over the past years, built on mutual respect and shared values.
Independent Media Commission Executive Secretary Khalil Kallon praised the event as a significant space for conversation and collaboration in the media sector, stating that the theme of “Connecting with the Media – Sharing Our Story” is both educational and impactful, highlighting the importance of effective communication and trust.
Orange SL CEO Aicha Toure reiterated the company’s commitment to connecting people and contributing significantly to Sierra Leone’s digital transformation. She expressed her priority as the new CEO to focus on listening and making better decisions for improved outcomes, ensuring a lasting and impactful partnership with Sierra Leone’s development goals.
Minister of Information and Civic Education Chernor Bah commended Orange SL for its sustained partnership with the government, ensuring that people in remote areas like Bonthe Highlands are connected to the network.
