Sierra Leonean comedian Kindo Armani has responded to public reactions following a joke he made during a recent event attended by President Julius Maada Bio.
In a press release, he said his comments were misunderstood after parts of the video were cut and shared online.
During the event, where he served as comedian and chairman, he joked that the President should ensure the ruling SLPP remains in power. He also said, in a humorous way, that comedians without visas could suffer if that did not happen.
He also made jokes about Sierra Leonean soldiers reportedly arrested in Guinea, saying they now only understand the local language. He clarified that the statement was not true and was only meant for humour.
Kindo Armani said elections are decided by voters and not by one person, including the President.
He added that he spoke out because many of his fans had misunderstood his comments.
The comedian said his work is to entertain people using real-life situations and that he has been doing this for over 20 years.
He also said his comedy is not political and that he has friends in both government and opposition.
