Mohamed Lamin Kamara has been unveiled as the new head coach of Wusum Stars FC after penning a short-term contract with the Northeast region’s only club in the Sierra Leone Premier League, replacing coach Abdul Rahman Turay who was dismissed earlier this week after a slow start in the ongoing 2022/23 season as they currently sit rock bottom in the eighteenth position with five points out of seven matches played.
Kamara is also the current head coach of the Sierra Leone Under-17 side which he guided to finish in the semi-finals of the WAFU U-17 tourney hosted in Mauritania 2022 and has previously spearheaded other top-tier clubs including East End Lions FC, Central Parade and East End Tigers.
Speaking to NewsFeed Sierra Leone coach Mohamed Lamin Kamara revealed that this is the first-ever time of accepting an appointment to spearhead a provincial-based club noting it is as a result of the existing cordial relationship between him and football administrators in Makeni convinced him to accept the offer.
“I have almost decided not to accept an offer from any Premier League club and continue with my grassroots football journey, however, this is the first time of coaching a club that is not based in Freetown and the reason for accepting the Wusum Stars job is because I have established a good relationship with the football administrators, coaches, and a lot more during my previous assignments in Makeni so it already a home for me that’s why I accepted the appointment,” he disclosed.
He expressed delight over the current squad of the team which he described as youthful, adding the target is to finish among the top five clubs in the first round of the league “I’m delighted to work with a youthful and talented squad of this nature, most of these players aren’t new to me they have passed through me in one way or the other, and the major goal for the first round is to finish among the top five teams in the league log” he ascribed.
Coach Mohamed Lamin however pointed out that it is a big challenge, but also assured the management and supporters of the club of a quick bounce-back with a collaborative effort “It is a big challenge I have never stayed away from the Western Area and I have never stayed away from family, also I am taking over a team that is in the eighteenth position, but with oneness and support from the executive, players and supporters we will soon change the narrative and write a different story,” Kamara concluded.
