SALWACO & EDSA Forge Partnership for Sustainable Water Supply in Bo & Kenema

In a ground breaking development, the leadership of the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO), headed by Ing. George Lamin Vandi, has partnered with the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) for power supply so as to provide water for people. It could be recalled that during the day and as a result of low power voltage, SALWACO has been unable to fully get its machines up and running. It was as a result of such that SALWACO and EDSA have to go into an agreement of providing adequate power supply, especially at night when most other power utilities may be off, to see that SALWACO is able to pump enough water for adequate supply and distribution to customers and clients.

It was on that note that the SALWACO Director of Communication, Gender, and Outreach, Mary Mansaray Ngegba, and SALWACO’s National Senior Communications Officer, Sheku Putka Kamara, engaged constituents of Bo and Kenema, respectively, to discuss and announce the new development.

SALWACO’s embarking on strategic communication initiatives in Bo and Kenema to engage stakeholders and customers about operations and plans to improve and standardize conditions is a testament to the need for effective communication and stakeholders’ engagement.

In Bo, the SALWACO Regional Manager, South, Edmond Manu Allieu Kabu, the SALWACO Station Manager, Bo, Ing. Alex P. Musa, and the National Senior Communication Officer, SALWACO, Sheku Putka Kamara were on Radio New Song’s flagship afternoon program to talk about SALWACO activities and that which is expected of people to see that SALWACO is able to deliver results.

In Kenema, the Director of Communication, Gender, and Outreach, Mary Mansaray Ngegba, and the Station Manager in Kenema, Ing. Osman Turay, including the Regional Manager, East, Braima Allieu, engaged constituents at the Kambui Agricultural Radio.

Among other things, both radio talk shows focused on how and why residents should understand that the SALWACO leadership is poised to address water supply constraints, but people were also urged to make judicious use of the opportunities and to adequately pay for SALWACO services on time, especially the timely and effective payments of water rates.

As a way to showcase how customers would now be able to pay for the SALWACO water rate with ease and convenience, the teams spoke about the availability of Afri-Money services, which are mechanisms that have been put in place for easier and faster payment of water rates, etc.

Also, people were urged to discourage the idea of indiscriminately cutting down trees for burning charcoal and other purposes; activities that affect SALWACO catchments, etc.

Similar engagements are expected to be carried out in all other operational areas of SALWACO nationwide.
