Police officers at the magistrate court in Kenema have destroyed huge quantities of various drugs, including Kush, Cannabis sativa, among others.
The burning of the drugs, which was estimated at over 200 kg, took place in the presence of several stakeholders and security apparatus at the court premises with the instruction from Magistrate Braima-Jah of Court Number 1 in Kenema.
One of the onlookers, Chief Vandi Fajaga, expressed his happiness about the exercise, adding that drug taking is greatly affecting society. The burning of drugs openly will discourage drug users and those who trade in it, thereby reducing the availability of drugs in communities.
They assured all that such exercise will have a positive impact in society in terms of control of drug abuse, as this is not the first time of drug burning he has witnessed at the court premises in Kenema.
With the presence of the No Nonsense Magistrate in Kenema, crime rates are on the decrease at the moment, as most of his sentences are not below five years, making most of the criminals disappear in the city, while some are behind bars, a situation he described as a positive move by the judiciary in the interest of the general public, said the chief.
The head of the registry in the Kenema High Court, Sheku Kemoh Mansaray, told his audience that the burnt drugs of various types were collected within the district from several suspects at various locations by the police, who charged them to court for prosecution over a period of time, and the convicted persons are now serving their sentences or have paid their fines.
He encouraged the law enforcers to continue their good work in the interest of national development.
He appealed to all and sundry to discourage drug business in society as it is not good for society.
