A devastating fire broke out at Old Chief Compound in Yonibana town on Saturday, 10th January 2026, destroying a residential house and leaving its occupants without shelter. The blaze, believed to have originated from the solar power system, spread rapidly, consuming household items and personal property.
The affected family, including Dauda Turay, Mariatou Turay, and Sallu Turay, is now grappling with significant losses. Eyewitnesses say the fire spread quickly, leaving little time for the family to salvage their belongings. Neighbours and community members rallied to respond, but the intensity of the flames made it challenging to control the blaze.
Miraculously, no fatalities were reported, but the family’s loss is substantial. The incident has sparked concerns about solar installation safety and the need for certified technicians and regular system inspections to prevent similar accidents.
The community stands in solidarity with the Turay family, offering sympathy and support during this trying time. As they work towards recovery, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of prioritising safety and taking proactive measures to prevent such tragedies.
