Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, on Friday, 27th February 2026, received the 16 Sierra Leonean soldiers who were recently released by the Guinean Government following diplomatic engagements to resolve the border incident, reaffirming the country’s commitment to peaceful dialogue and regional cooperation.
The breakthrough came after a high-level delegation, mandated by Vice President Dr Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, engaged Guinean authorities, paving the way for the safe return of the personnel.
Speaking just before a dinner hosted for the released soldiers at the residence of the Vice President in Freetown, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Alhaji Timothy Musa Kabba, who led the high level delegation to Conakry, said that VP Juldeh Jalloh, acting as Commander-in-Chief in the absence of President Julius Maada Bio, constituted and mandated the high-level delegation that engaged Guinean authorities in Conakry and ensured the safe return of the soldiers.
“When the incident happened, as the Vice President, you showed remarkable courage and leadership, even when tempers flared. You provided the inspiration. It is your instruction that we took to Conakry to bring our countrymen and women, who, in the course of their duty, had to face that unfortunate situation,” he stated.
He also commended the coordinated efforts of the security sector and diplomatic team whose engagement led to the soldiers being handed over earlier in the day, following days of heightened border tensions.
