The police are currently hunting for Olufemi Macrae of No. 112 Fourah Bay Road, Freetown, who has been declared wanted for planning and taking part in a protest. He is said to be one of those who incited the August 10 and 11, 2022, demonstrations in which 31 people lost their lives, including six police officers.
His post as a strong member of the People Power Politics known as PPP made him a key suspect. The government, which has accused PPP and other groups of planning, financing, and orchestrating the protest, says those responsible should be arrested.
Since Olufemi Macrae was singled out for arrest and detention, the then Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Laurence Leema, ordered his arrest and other members on the 12th of August 2022, but luckily he was able to escape and run away from Sierra Leone to Guinea, where he stayed briefly. His brother was killed at the scene after a gunshot was fired at his house when police and military officers went there to rest him. He left Guinea to unknown destination to keep himself safe from police arrest.
However, based on information that police are still going after him, we understood that he lost his family. His father died of Ebola, while his mother died of diabetes. Olufemi Macrae can be arrested at any time he returns home, as his arrest still remains in force.
