Two Sierra Leonean National Paralympic Committee (SLE-NPC) representatives, athlete AbdulI Mattia and coach Ibrahim Sankoh, are currently attending the GAPS Global Training Camp in Mauritius. The camp, which runs from November 4th to 13th, 2024, is providing opportunity for Para athletes and coaches from across the Commonwealth to come together for intense training, competition, and personal development.
The President of Paralympic Sierra Leone, Unisa Deen Kargbo, expressed his delight at the chance for the Sierra Leonean team to effectively represent their country at the GAPS training. He emphasized that this opportunity, provided by the Commonwealth Games Federation, is especially important for athletes from less opportune countries, and he urged the participants to remain focused and make the most of this experience.
The GAPS Global Training Camp is being attended by 51 Para athletes and coaches from 21 Commonwealth nations and territories. The camp brings together participants from all six regions of the Commonwealth, providing a platform for them to showcase their skills and talents in the sport of Para Athletics.
The Sierra Leonean contingent, led by AbdulI Mattia and Ibrahim Sankoh, are sure to make their country proud as they engage in the intense training and competition at the GAPS Global Training Camp in Mauritius. Their presence at this prestigious event is a testament to the growing strength and potential of Sierra Leone’s Paralympic movement.
