Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) is commemorating African Statistics Day (ASD) as part of its continuous efforts to raise awareness about the important role statistics play in all aspects of economic and social life of the country and the African continent at large.
The African Statistics Day (ASD), celebrated on November 18 every year, is an initiative that was borne out of the 25th session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and the 16th meeting of African Ministers responsible for Economic Planning and Development in May 1990.
Since its inception, this day has been observed with the use of various themes. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Supporting Education by Modernizing Production of Fit for Purpose Statistics.”
Note that the commemoration of the ASD is happening simultaneously across the (16) District of Sierra Leone.
