In a heartwarming display of generosity and support for his home country, US-based Sierra Leonean wrestler Gabriel McDuffie has donated essential wrestling equipment to the Sierra Leone Wrestling Association (SLWA). The donation, consisting of 18 singlets and 10 pairs of wrestling shoes, was officially handed over at the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone (NOC-SLE) Headquarters in Freetown.
This gesture comes as a significant boost for the sport in Sierra Leone, a country that has long grappled with limited resources and scarce international representation. President of the SLWA and the National Olympic Committee, Prince Sualley, expressed his gratitude for McDuffie’s contribution, emphasizing its potential impact in nurturing talent and elevating the profile of wrestling in the nation.
Gabriel McDuffie, in his commitment to empowering young athletes in Sierra Leone, has laid out plans to further support and develop the wrestling community. His dedication to the sport will culminate in his debut representing Sierra Leone at the upcoming 2025 African Wrestling Championships in Casablanca, Morocco, scheduled from April 29 to May 4, 2025.
McDuffie’s altruistic efforts and dedication to fostering a thriving wrestling scene in Sierra Leone are commendable, setting a positive example of giving back and supporting grassroots sports development.
