In a significant move to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen relationships within the Authority, the Board of Directors of the National Revenue Authority (NRA) embarked on a familiarization tour of the authority’s properties and outstations to get first-hand accounts of their work and their challenges.

The tour which began on 15th January 2025, aimed to introduce the new board members to staff and familiarize them with the various operational units of the authority. The delegation, led by the *Chairperson Mr. Kabineh M. Kallon assisted by other Board Members including Dr. John Karimu the Tax Expert on the Board, Mr. Andrew Pessima the Economist,  Madam Memunatu B. Rogers the Legal Expert and  Madam Miatta-Mamie Kallon Representative of the Financial Secretary, Ministry of Finance. The NRA Senior Management Team was equally represented by Deputy Commissioner General 2 Mr. Gerald P.H. Ganda, Mr. Edwin Conteh Deputy Commissioner of Domestic Tax Department, Mrs. Fredricka M. Kella, Director of Administration, the Board Secretary Mary Y. Musa and Mr. John B. Amara the Assistant Commissioner for Boarder Controls and Management, Customs Services Department. The team visited several key locations, including Regional Offices in Bo and Kenema, Customs Checkpoints, Jendema and Gblamuya border crossing points to engage with staff and stakeholders at each stop.

During the visit, the Board members expressed their commitment to fostering a collaborative work environment and enhancing the authority’s revenue collection strategies. “Understanding the challenges and successes at the ground level is crucial for us as we work towards improving our services and maximizing revenue for the country,” said the Chairperson Mr. Kabineh M. Kallon.

The familiarization tour included interactive sessions where staff members shared insights about their roles, challenges they face, and suggestions for improvement. This open dialogue was well-received, with many staff expressing appreciation for the Board’s willingness to listen and engage.

In addition to meeting with staff, the Board also inspected various facilities and resources, assessing the current state of operations and identifying areas for potential development. The tour concluded with a roundtable discussion aimed at setting strategic priorities for the authority moving forward.

The Board’s visit serves as a positive step towards revitalizing the authority’s mission and ensuring that it remains responsive to the needs of both its employees and the citizens it serves. As they move forward, the Board in collaboration with the Senior Management Team is expected to implement new initiatives aimed at improving efficiency, transparency, and accountability within the revenue collection process.

The familiarization tour marks the beginning of a new chapter for the NRA, with hopes that the newly appointed Board will lead the authority towards greater achievements in the coming years.
