On Friday, January 31st, 2025, Ambassador Omrie Golley was feted in a landmark event that took place in the Magburaka District Headquarters of Tonkolili District, North-Eastern Province of Sierra Leone, marking the official launch of a landmark agricultural project aimed at empowering the party’s wards and constituency membership, as well as fostering the party’s growth through agricultural cohesion.

The event was attended by key members of the party, ranging from local politicians, district leaders, and regional and national stakeholders. The gathering was designed to celebrate a legacy project set to transform the district’s agricultural landscape and ensure sustainable development at the grassroots level. It was the launch of a rice cultivation project that will target the 29 wards and 10 constituencies within the district.

Speaking during the event, Dr. Samuel Bangura, District Chairman, Tonkolili, highlighted the scope of the project when he detailed that five bushels of rice per ward will be cultivated within each of the 29 wards in Tonkolili District. The project, he said, will be carried out in all 10 constituencies 47-56, involving various APC local communities and stakeholders, with its primary focus on smallholder farmers, particularly in rural villages where agriculture plays a critical role in daily life.

Dr. Bangura expressed his appreciation to Ambassador Golley, who agreed to actively financially support this project. Dr. Bangura applauded the trust and confidence bestowed on him by Ambassador Golley, saying that the ambassador decided to fund the project readily as it resonated with his dream of the importance of sustainable agriculture in the development of the APC Party and the country as a whole. Dr. Bangura called on other APC comrades to emulate the philanthropy of Ambassador Golley by contributing to the project.

Representing Ambassador Golley at the event, Abdul Malik Bangura, Esq., who is personal assistant to the ambassador, reiterated Ambassador Golley’s ongoing support for the project and promised additional funds for its expansion.

Lawyer Abdul Malik further added that in the vision of Ambassador Golley, the agricultural project is a significant boost for grassroots development, particularly for local farmers, and is aligned with the APC’s strategic plans to win the 2028 elections. The launch of this project is seen as a means to engage the party base at the grassroots level while ensuring that communities actively participate in the development process. He said when the party’s supporters are hungry, and that, itself, is very challenging for the leadership, stressing that “a hungry man is always an angry man.”

Lawyer Abdul Malik also emphasized the importance of party unity, which he said sits perfectly in the vision of Ambassador Golley, warning that without unity, the APC could fare badly in future elections. He urged all party stakeholders to actively support the project and continue fighting for the party’s success.

Pa Alie Commoner Kargbo, Northeast Regional Chairman, APC, stressed the necessity of unity within the party. He pointed out that internal divisions and personal interests had hampered the party’s development and urged everyone present to set aside personal differences for the greater good of the party.

Whilst launching the project, Comrade Lansana Dumbuya Esq., National Secretary General of APC, expressed immense pride in the party’s efforts to promote agriculture as the backbone of Sierra Leone’s economy. He emphasized the APC’s commitment to the nation’s development and urged all members to keep the party above personal interests.

Dumbuya highlighted that the success of the project was crucial for food security and national prosperity. Dumbuya concluded by conveying the blessings and support of the APC National Chairman and National Executive, affirming the party’s active endorsement of the initiative.

The launch of the agricultural project was an overwhelming success, with strong support from all participants and stakeholders. The official statements highlighted the importance of party unity, collaboration at the grassroots level, and a collective commitment to achieving the project’s goals.
