Trust Hand Humanitarian Aid Organisation (T.H.H.A.O), in collaboration with Dosteli Organisation (Konya, Turkey), has successfully completed and opened a new modern mosque, minaret, and handpump water well in Rothangbai Village, in the Yoni Mamaila Chiefdom of Tonkolili, Northern Sierra Leone.
The project aimed to replace an outdated and dilapidated mosque, providing a safe and respectable place of worship for the village’s expanding Muslim population and ensuring access to clean water.
The newly built mosque can accommodate up to 500 worshippers and features high-quality materials such as cement, iron rods, and corrugated zinc.
A minaret now stands besides the mosque, symbolising Islamic faith in the community.
The handpump installation provides a dependable source of clean water, reducing the burden of water collection, especially for women and children, and improving public health.
The project resulted in effective teamwork between the Rothangbai community, Dosteli Organisation, and THHAO.
The community was involved from the planning process to construction, supplying land and participating in meetings. A mosque committee has been established to oversee the upkeep and administration of the facilities.
Chief Executive Officer Mr Gibrilla Kargbo expressed gratitude, saying, “Today is a historic day for Rothangbai. We have a beautiful, safe mosque we can be proud of. We’re deeply grateful to Dosteli Organisation for their generous support.”
Project manager Mr Abass Mohamed Fofanah added, “The new mosque and water pump will enhance our community’s general well-being, Islamic education, and unity. This project showcases how faith-based initiatives can catalyse comprehensive community development, creating a lasting positive impact in Rothangbai Village.”
