Kabala recently hosted the Project 1808, Inc. Science and Leadership Festival, bringing together young people, educators, innovators and community leaders from across Sierra Leone and beyond.
The festival, which took place over three days, focused on promoting science, leadership, innovation and African cultural identity. It provided a platform for students, professionals and traditional leaders to engage in discussions on how science and leadership can be used to drive national development.
Organisers said the event aimed to inspire young people to combine modern science with African values in order to solve real-life problems. Activities during the festival included panel discussions, exhibitions, mentorship sessions and cultural displays.
Speakers at the event encouraged participants to embrace education, innovation and leadership while remaining rooted in their cultural identity. They also highlighted the importance of self-reliance, critical thinking and continuous learning in preparing young people for future opportunities.
Community leaders and educators praised the choice of Kabala as host town, noting that the festival boosted local engagement and showcased the town’s role in national conversations around science and leadership.
Project 1808 organisers described the festival as successful, saying it strengthened collaboration between young people, professionals and institutions committed to building a new generation of African leaders.
The Kabala event formed part of Project 1808’s ongoing efforts to promote science education, leadership development and cultural pride across Sierra Leone.
