Freetown, Monday, 12th January, 2026: The Chief Justice of Sierra Leone, His Lordship Honourable Justice Komba Kamanda, paid an unannounced visit to the Pademba Road Magistrates’ Courts as part of ongoing efforts to monitor the commitment of magistrates and court support staff to their official duties.

The surprise visit, which took place in the early hours of today during normal court sittings, was aimed at assessing punctuality, attendance, and the general work ethic of judicial officers and support staff.

According to the Chief Justice, the exercise forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen accountability within the judiciary and ensure the effective delivery of justice to all citizens.

Speaking during the visit, Honourable Chief Justice Kamanda emphasized that regular monitoring would continue across courts nationwide in line with his vision of improving access to justice and restoring public confidence in the judicial system.

“These monitoring visits will continue as we work towards bringing justice closer to all Sierra Leoneans. So far, I’m satisfied,” the Chief Justice stated.

The Chief Justice was accompanied by the Deputy Assistant Registrar (DAR), Mabel Sesay, who also engaged with court staff on administrative and operational issues affecting service delivery.

Since assuming office, Chief Justice Komba Kamanda has repeatedly stressed the need for reforms focused on integrity, accountability, and service delivery. The unannounced visit is seen as a practical demonstration of that commitment.
