Freetown, Sierra Leone: Preparations are in full swing for the highly anticipated West Africa Heroes Awards 2026, scheduled to take place on 9th May 2026 at the prestigious Freetown International Conference Centre, Bintumani, Aberdeen. The event is poised to bring together some of the most distinguished personalities, policymakers, innovators, and change-makers from across West Africa in a grand celebration of excellence, leadership, and service.
Organized by Heroes Media Group, the awards have rapidly evolved into a significant regional platform that recognizes individuals and institutions making meaningful contributions to development, governance, entrepreneurship, and social transformation across the sub-region.
A Gathering of Influence and Impact
This year’s maiden edition is expected to host an impressive lineup of dignitaries from across West Africa, reinforcing Sierra Leone’s growing role as a hub for regional dialogue and collaboration. The event will not only celebrate outstanding achievements but also foster conversations around peace building, economic growth, and cross-border partnerships.
Anto Lecky to Host as Master of Ceremonies
Adding glamour and continental appeal to the ceremony is Dr. Munirat Antoinette Lecky, popularly known as Anto Lecky, who will serve as the master of ceremonies. A notable media personality and former Big Brother Naija star (2018 edition), she has successfully transitioned into leadership roles within the creative and academic sectors.
Currently serving as Creative Director at Weldios University, Anto Lecky also holds a strategic government position as special adviser to the governor of Edo State on tourism and the creative economy in Edo State, Nigeria. Her presence is expected to bring both professionalism and vibrancy to the ceremony.
Chief Justice Komba Kamanda to Deliver Legacy Lecture
A major highlight of the event will be the Heroes Legacy Lecture, to be delivered by Komba Kamanda, the honorable Chief Justice of the Republic of Sierra Leone. His lecture is anticipated to address critical themes around justice, governance, national cohesion, and the role of leadership in shaping sustainable societies.
A Call for National Support and Ownership
The Board of Trustees of Heroes Media Group has called on all citizens of Sierra Leone to embrace and support the initiative. According to the board, the West Africa Heroes Awards is not merely an institutional event but a national and regional movement aimed at repositioning Sierra Leone as a center for progressive dialogue and innovation.
“This is bigger than an awards ceremony,” a board representative noted. “It is about promoting regional peace, encouraging meaningful conversations around development, and inspiring societal transformation across West Africa.”
Promoting Regional Unity Through Recognition
Beyond recognition, the awards aim to strengthen regional unity by showcasing stories of resilience, innovation, and leadership. By bringing together diverse voices and perspectives, the event seeks to inspire a new generation of Africans committed to solving the continent’s challenges.
As anticipation builds, stakeholders across sectors are encouraged to participate actively in what promises to be one of the most influential regional gatherings of 2026.
The West Africa Heroes Awards continues to stand as a testament to the power of recognition in driving progress, fostering unity, and shaping the future of the region.
