In a move that has ignited excitement among football enthusiasts, the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), with the support of the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ministry of Sports, has officially announced the appointment of Mohamed Kallon as the new head coach of the national senior men’s football team.
The unveiling ceremony, held on Wednesday, February 26, at the SLFA’s office in Freetown, was attended by key stakeholders who expressed their confidence in Kallon’s ability to lead the national team, known as the Leone Stars.
SLFA President Thomas Daddy Brima emphasized that Kallon’s appointment was driven by the overwhelming support of the public, stating, He is the people’s choice at this time, and we had to listen to their call. Kallon has the experience, professionalism, and passion for the game.
NSA Executive Director Dr. Emanuel Safa Abdulai congratulated Kallon on his new role, praising his contributions to Sierra Leonean football both as a player and now as a coach. He revealed that Kallon has been offered a three-year contract, with the possibility of renewal based on his performance.
Kallon, a former Sierra Leonean international and a respected figure in the country’s football landscape, expressed his gratitude to the SLFA, NSA, and the people of Sierra Leone for their confidence in him. He will now focus on preparing the team for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, where the Leone Stars will face Guinea-Bissau on March 20, 2025, and Egypt on March 25, 2025.
This appointment is seen as a significant step in Sierra Leone’s quest to strengthen its national football team and make a strong impact on the international stage.
