Sierra Leoneans at home and abroad are celebrating gospel music icon Vicky Fornah as she marks another birthday. Known for her powerful voice and strong message of faith, Vicky Fornah has spent decades using music to inspire hope, unity and love.

Born in Freetown, Vicky began singing at a young age. She joined the choir at Michael Miller Memorial Wesleyan Church in Lumley when she was only 10 years old. From that moment, many people noticed her strong voice and passion for gospel music.

Her music career later grew when she joined a gospel group and started performing with other talented musicians. In 1995, she released her first album titled Don’t Bend the Law. The album became very popular among gospel listeners in Sierra Leone.

In 1997, she moved to the United States where her music ministry continued to grow. Even while living abroad, she remained connected to Sierra Leone and continued to sing songs that speak about faith, peace and love for the country.

Over the years, Vicky Fornah released several albums including God Has a Plan for You, Cry Africa, Hold My Hand, Sweet Motherland, Dis Wol, Restoration Time, Take It Away and Thank You. Her album Hold My Hand became one of the most popular gospel albums from Sierra Leone and gained fans both in the country and in the diaspora.

Many people say her music helped bring comfort during difficult times in Sierra Leone. Her songs often talk about forgiveness, peace and trusting in God. Because of this, many fans see her music not only as entertainment but also as a message of hope.

Apart from music, Vicky Fornah is also known for her humanitarian work. She has supported education in rural communities in Sierra Leone. Through her charity efforts, she has helped provide school materials and has also spoken strongly about the importance of education, especially for girls.

In recent years, she also started a faith-based event called the Royal Tea Party. The event brings people together for worship, fellowship and discussions about faith, mental health and self-confidence. The programme started in the United States and later expanded to the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Her long service to music and humanitarian work has earned her many awards. She has won awards for Best Female Artist and Best Selling Gospel Album. In 2023, she was also honoured with the Order of the Rokel, one of the highest national honours in the country, presented by Julius Maada Bio.

Today, many Sierra Leoneans describe Vicky Fornah as more than just a singer. To many people, she is a symbol of faith, hope and service to the nation.

As she celebrates her birthday, fans across the world continue to thank her for the music and inspiration she has given to Sierra Leone and beyond. Her voice, message and impact remain strong, and many believe her legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
