The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), in collaboration with the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone A, has successfully concluded a three-day competition management workshop in Freetown, marking a significant step in enhancing football administration standards across the region.
The workshop brought together sixteen participants representing nine WAFU member countries, including the host nation Sierra Leone, creating a platform for knowledge exchange and regional cooperation in football management.
The intensive training programme covered critical aspects of football administration, with sessions focusing on match organisation, match supervision, and match reporting. These core competencies are essential for maintaining and elevating competition standards throughout West Africa.
SLFA President Babadi Kamara, speaking at the conclusion of the workshop, described the event as a testament to the confidence placed in his administration’s leadership. “This workshop represents not just training, but a vote of confidence in our collective efforts to advance football in our region,” Kamara stated.
He expressed gratitude to WAFU Zone A and the Government of Sierra Leone for their unwavering support in making the event possible.
President Kamara urged participants to leverage the connections made during the workshop, encouraging them to maintain strong professional relationships that extend beyond the football pitch. He also challenged attendees to become ambassadors of the knowledge acquired, recommending they organise similar capacity-building initiatives within their respective federations.
WAFU President Lamin Kabba Bajo emphasised the critical importance of continuous professional development in football administration. “Football is evolving at an unprecedented pace, and as administrators, we must ensure we’re not left behind,” Bajo remarked. Continuous capacity building is not optional—it’s essential for the growth and development of our beautiful game.
