Abdul Jarjue Kabia etched his name into Sierra Leone football history with a memorable first international goal, propelling the Leone Stars to a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Liberia’s Lone Star in an international friendly at the Southern Arena in Bo on Saturday.
The Georgia-based defender broke the deadlock in the 66th minute, latching onto a precise pass from Sallieu Tarawalie before unleashing a strike that sent the home crowd into raptures.
The goal proved to be the difference in what was Sierra Leone’s first FIFA-sanctioned home match played outside the capital, Freetown.
The Southern Arena was buzzing with anticipation as local fans finally got the opportunity to watch their national team compete on home soil.
The Leone Stars delivered a disciplined performance, with Kabia’s breakthrough moment rewarding their persistence against a resilient Liberian side.
Leone Stars have already touched down in Monrovia for the return fixture scheduled for Tuesday, June 9th, 2026, at the Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) Stadium.
The team will be looking to complete a double over their West African neighbours and build momentum for future campaigns.
